Museum of London - Impressions from the London Seam (selected work)

Apart from the many drawings of specific individuals I made, I also became aware of how people interact with one another and of the countless different ways in which they 'look' at the exhibits and objects in the museum and I was particularly struck by the impression of the rivers of people flowing through the building. This flow of public and the chronological flow of time in the museum made a great impression on me and formed the basis of this exhibition.

Impressions from a London Seam - the exhibition's title - reflects how I related what I was doing to that of the museum's job. My task in trying to imagine the identity of those passing through the museum was similar to the task the museum has of uncovering (often literally) the layers of material in the strata of London's history and trying to understand how people lived. As the exhibited people of history descend in layers of time through the museum, so do it's present day vistors.

Both these groups are unknown, both an enigma and a mystery, both caught up in a seam of their own time and both completely compelling.
